Is hatred holding you back in your business?

On Letting Go

Some people seem obsessed with hatred. They talk about it all the time. They even end up writing long opinion pieces on the people they hate. Everyone is to blame for their lack, for their failure, for their lack of action.

I know it’s not easy. It’s not easy to be dealt a poor hand or no hand at all in life. Bitterness creeps in and seeps through your entire body and mind. The bitterness that somebody else has done better than you. The hatred of people even from the long distant past who you can blame for your own shortcomings. You can even blame them for your perspective or the particular mindset you hold.

It’s no use wishing for the way things might have been. You may have had a father who spent every last cent on alcohol and died a pauper. No accumulation of intergenerational wealth whatsoever. Everything that was worth anything destroyed.

For the person who wants to pull themselves up by their own boot straps, the individual who aspires to be an entrepreneur one has to put away or bury the 100 reasons why they aren’t successful. It’s not your gift at birth that makes you an entrepreneur. You can’t blame your parents. You can’t blame business and political figures from the past who you know very little about. You can’t blame successful families who have held onto and grown their wealth. You can’t blame your competitors.

The entrepreneur has to ditch hating others and blaming others before they can move on. It doesn’t mean that you have to erase your memory but it does mean that you need to let go. Letting go starts with forgiveness. Forgiving others that you believe were the cause for where you are in life. Forgiving your parents who may have not fulfilled your expectations or given you a golden key to opportunity. Forgiving yourself for your own shortcomings, weaknesses and human frailty.

The realisation that you are responsible for your own life whatever your circumstances may be very difficult for some people to accept. But it is a necessary first step you have to take if you want to let go of hatred, bitterness and blame to begin to see the opportunities around you as an entrepreneur.
