My Origin Story: 15 Years of IdeaAccelerator and Counting

What could be more fun than relaxing on the beach. Not running a website surely – but it can be great fun too.

For the past 15 years, I’ve been running a blog and website called IdeaAccelerator. Some might think I’m crazy for sticking with it for so long, and truthfully, I’ve had those moments myself. But when I look at the thousands of people I’ve influenced and the value I’ve been able to provide to readers of all ages, it reminds me why I’m here—and why I keep going.

I’ve always been passionate about business and personal growth, and I can trace that passion back to a chance encounter early in my career. I was working for a magazine when I met a young salesman who introduced me to the world of “success literature.” At the time, I had no idea what he was talking about, but his energy and focus sparked something in me. He showed me that there’s a right way to do things—a way to follow proven patterns for success. That experience planted a seed in my mind, one that has grown into a lifelong pursuit of understanding, applying, and sharing those principles.

The Start of an Idea

Fast forward a few years, and the internet arrived. At the time, I had a vague idea of wanting to start a website but didn’t know how to bring it to life. One day, while chatting with a friend’s son, I mentioned my idea. To my surprise, he offered to set it up for me. Within no time, I had a live website, and another friend stepped in to host it. That moment was pivotal—it gave me the platform I needed to begin sharing ideas with the world.

Over the years, many have questioned my commitment to this blog, especially now, in an era where there are millions of websites competing for attention. But even after all this time, my site still receives a good amount of traffic, and my market reports—on topics like coffee, cannabis, and coffee shops—continue to resonate with readers.

A Journey of Consistency and Discovery

In the past nine months, I’ve taken things to the next level by stepping up my posting schedule—sometimes writing daily. What I’ve learned is that ideas flow when you keep the momentum going. Some days, I have so many potential topics that it’s hard to decide which one to tackle first.

Through trial and error, I’ve discovered what my audience finds valuable. Subjects like market trends consistently draw interest, and I’ve leaned into producing more reports on those topics. However, engagement is still a challenge. Perhaps I’m not controversial enough, but that’s not my aim. My goal has always been to provide thoughtful, actionable insights rather than chasing clicks with sensationalism.

Building a Platform and a Legacy

My journey with the internet goes way back, to around 2000, when I was part of a dynamic team buying up domain names and exploring the potential of online platforms. Some of the people I worked with went on to build incredible careers in online shopping and internet businesses. Their success inspired me to create and maintain my own platform, even when it wasn’t easy.

Yesterday, I was speaking to some young people, and they questioned why I keep investing time and energy into a site that isn’t wildly lucrative. Their advice? “Give it up.” But I don’t see it that way. Running IdeaAccelerator has given me something priceless: a platform to share ideas, build a community, and provide tools for others to build their own worlds.

Why This Matters

In today’s landscape, big social media platforms dominate, but I believe there’s still immense value in having your own space—a place where you’re not at the mercy of algorithms or policies. It’s about creating your own ecosystem, building your own fan base, and offering value on your own terms.

Yes, the world doesn’t reward you with applause for simply showing up. But that’s not why I’m here. My mission is to help others, whether it’s by providing insights on business and markets, or by sharing strategies to live a healthier, happier life. If my words can make even a small difference, then it’s all worth it.

The Road Ahead

Fifteen years in, and I’m still as motivated as ever. I’m realistic about the challenges, but I remain focused on my purpose: to serve others through meaningful content. Whether it’s helping someone rethink their approach to life or inspiring them to take a bold step in business, I want to be part of their journey.

To those who’ve been following my work, thank you for being part of this incredible adventure. And to those who are just discovering IdeaAccelerator, welcome—I can’t wait to share the road ahead with you.
