I recently had the privilege to witness firsthand the spirit of enterprise at work in small businesses—many of them run by women. It was an eye-opening experience to see not just what it takes to start a business but what it takes to nurture one, day after day.

The word spirit is vital when linked with enterprise. It’s not just about the mechanics of running a business but the sheer drive to get things done and the will to act on a personal vision. This vision is rarely just about making money. It’s often about creating something meaningful, something that reflects the entrepreneur’s inner purpose. Words like “passion” can sometimes feel hollow, so I use spirit because it conveys that deeper, sustaining energy—the force that permeates every action, decision, and challenge.

To me, the spirit of enterprise embodies not just the ability to think of new and effective ideas but also the resilience to overcome obstacles. It’s the capacity to face brick walls with ingenuity, turning setbacks into opportunities. I saw this in the courage of people who didn’t let limited resources or tough circumstances stop them from building something worthwhile.

What struck me most is how this spirit transforms not only businesses but also lives. It uplifts communities and inspires others to believe in their own potential. Witnessing this spirit firsthand reminded me that enterprise isn’t just about the outcome—it’s about the journey, the determination to keep moving forward even when the path is uncertain.

The spirit of enterprise is a testament to human creativity and grit, and seeing it in action was nothing short of inspiring. It’s a force worth celebrating.
