Windy walk along the coastal main road

I put on a warm jacket and walk down to the coastal town to buy groceries for supper. It’s two o’clock in the afternoon and the sun is shining, but the wind is blowing strong. It’s a stiff Southeaster.

My cap nearly flies off my head and I pin it down tighter so it doesn’t blow off into the main road. When I reach the buildings in the shade, it is cool against my body and my legs feel cold because I’m wearing short pants.

I can feel the autumn chill against my shoulders. It’s unpleasant, but not too cold. Papers rustle up against the walls in the wind.?

I go inside a shop and I’m out of the wind and it’s warm inside. My mouth feels dry from the walk, but I’ll have something to drink later on.

I finish my shopping and ?begin my walk back along the main road. The mountains still look green against the fading light of the late afternoon. The wind is even stronger now and the sand is flying across the road.

As I pass the wetland, I can smell the rich scents from the fynbos and other shrubs rising up swiftly in the wind. An old man is lying in a fetal position behind some bushes, sheltering his tired old body from the wind.

I cross the road. ?The wind is full force now as I make my way up to my cottage. Two starlings are perched on a fence.??

I open the door and go ?inside and in the lounge, sun streaming through the west side window with the leaves outside dancing in the wind. It feels good to be out of the wind and warm again and I take off my jacket and make myself a cup of coffee.
