The big achievers in the Formula 1 race in Austria on Sunday, 29 July 2025, were the Kicker Saber team — including Gabriel Bortoleto and Nico Hülkenberg. Bortoleto gained 4 points and Hülkenberg 2 points for their team. This deserves great applause.
Other drivers of note were Liam Lawson, Fernando Alonso, and Esteban Ocon.
At the bottom of the pack were Yuki Tsunoda, Franco Colapinto, Pierre Gasly, Isaac Hadjar, and Oliver Bearman.
With four of the top drivers out of the race in the early stages, there weren’t any fireworks.
Petrolheads were knocking back their beers as they cheered for the so-called leaders — without any real competition.
The dullness and predictability of the finishers made the whole thing exceedingly tedious. Such predictability can lead to permanent brain rot.
This online comment really hits:
“No overtakings, all sharing similar strategies since there is no refueling … I mean, if you’re not into it, it is dull.”
That’s why so many people are complaining online, saying how boring Formula 1 has become. They say the last time there was any real excitement was back in 2021, with the great contest between real champion driver Max Verstappen and world champion Lewis Hamilton.
Since then, F1 has been sliding steadily downhill. 2025 has just become a bore, and one wonders whether to bother watching any more races until 2026 — when better drivers might finally get better cars.
Another internet comment sums it up perfectly:
“A bad driver in a good team can win races, but a good driver in a bad team won’t be able to do anything at all.”
The TV commentators keep trying to yassify the race by hyping up just two drivers — but no amount of gassing up will work.
F1 really only has 10 teams and 20 drivers, which means there’s not a lot of competition. And because TV networks are chasing ratings, they focus on the drivers they think have “appeal” — as if all the other drivers, who put in immense effort just to finish the race, don’t count.
The real winners of the race in Austria were the worthy midfielders — just imagine how much effort they put into their driving to stay the course and finish strong. They’ve got fantastic teams backing them, but they’re hardly mentioned by these sycophantic commentators.
Unfortunately, unless something dramatically changes, we can look forward to yet more uninspiring, unspectacular racing for the rest of the 2025 season.
Maybe that suggestion from one online commenter — to forget the 2025 season and wait until the real drivers get real cars in 2026 — is the best option.
Who knows? Hope springs eternal in the F1 fan’s breast. Curiosity might even lead to watching another race… hoping things prove different — like they briefly did in Round 10 in Canada. But that was after 9 rounds of utter boredom.
