You’ve got to be careful about websites and e-commerce platforms.

Why?

Because there are so many charlatans pretending to be experts.?

They’ll build you stuff that doesn’t work.

They’ll build you stuff that looks dreadful.

Why am I saying this? Why am I being negative about it? I’ll tell you why. Because when I saw website builders advertising on street poles, build your website for R500, I knew the game was over. There are so many wannabes and clowns getting into building websites that you could easily be fooled. So you have to be careful. Be careful of the buzz cut know-it-all youngster. Youngsters, not so much the ponytails — not many of them around these days, may know about the technology but not about business. I got a young crew cut to build my website and he did a very fine job.

Now that reminds me, you either want a basic website where you can advertise your bottled olive oil or a so-called e-commerce site from which you can sell your bottled olive oil. The basic website is very much like an online or electronic catalogue. The so-called e-commerce website is where you can sell products. It’s as simple as that really. You can also have a simple looking website or a very fancy one with colour pictures and so much stuff that it takes long to upload your website. So let’s say you do want to have an online presence or sell online. You need to find someone who can do it for you. Doing it yourself sucks. There’s so much to learn and you don’t want to become a website expert. You want to become an expert on selling bottled olive oil. So get somebody who knows their stuff and tell them what you want and get them to build it for you. Don’t give them a blank cheque. Make sure you fix the price beforehand otherwise you are going to be very, very sorry in the long run. Costs don’t stop here. You’ll have to continually update your website as technology changes. You’ll have to make modifications. You’ll want to add things. All of this is going to cost you money. So look carefully at what you want and the person or little company that’s going to do it for you.

Be careful of referrals through acquaintances and family. A lot of people claim to be website builders but when you ask them to do something for you they keep you waiting and waiting. Let me tell you a quick story. Someone I know wanted a website built for her. She contacted a so-called website builder via an acquaintance. They had a conversation. The person who wanted the website built for her had to wait and wait and wait. She eventually gave up. She still has no website. The so-called website builder is now living off family with no money. She is requesting gratuity payments from family as she can’t make ends meet. You see what I said. There are a lot of pretenders out there. Well time and money wait for nobody. So you’ve got to get somebody who has an empty slot and can do it for you.

With this in mind here are a few points on websites for olive oil bottlers but make sure you do your own homework, your own research and when you feel you’re ready, get it going.

Setting Up an E-commerce Platform to Sell Bottled Olive Oil

Small-scale olive oil bottlers in South Africa can boost their sales online. Here’s a simple guide on how to do it.

Choose Your Platform

First, pick an e-commerce platform. Shopify, WooCommerce, and Wix are good options. These platforms help you set up an online store with ease. They have templates and guides. This makes the process smooth.

Set Up Your Store

Next, create your online store. Use clear, high-quality photos of your products. Write simple, honest descriptions. Tell your customers why your olive oil is special. Highlight its taste, quality, and origin.

Further exploration:

Based on the information provided, here are actual websites of olive oil bottlers in South Africa:

  • Volza’s South Africa Exporters & Suppliers directory lists 717 olive oil exporters, but it does not specify bottlers. However, they suggest using their database to find genuine suppliers and manufacturers in South Africa 1. Access is highly expensive. 1.
  • South African Olive Oil mentions that South Africa is the 5th largest olive producer in the Southern Hemisphere and the largest in Sub-Saharan Africa. It also details the rapid expansion of olive production since 2008 and the high percentage of extra virgin olive oil produced 2. However, this site does not list specific bottlers either.
  • Willow Creek Olive Estate offers premium olive oil products, including extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and table olives, which are available for purchase online 5. This indicates that they bottle their own produce, although the website does not specifically state they are bottlers.
  • African Oils focuses on exceptional extra virgin oils from South Africa, suggesting they source directly from farmers and offer a 30-day return policy 6. They do not mention bottling facilities, though.
  • Mardouw Olive Estate is mentioned as having the most awarded extra virgin olive oil in South Africa, which implies they have a high-quality product range, but there is no direct reference to a website for bottlers 8.
  • Olyvenbosch introduces a ‘bag in a box’ packaging method, indicating they have innovative packaging solutions, but again, it does not confirm they are a bottler 9.
  • Kasandrinos International offers organic extra virgin olive oil and emphasizes sustainability and confidence in their products, but they do not specify that they are bottlers .

It is important to note that while these sites discuss olive oil production and offer related products, they do not all explicitly state that they are bottlers of olive oil. If you require a list of actual bottlers in South Africa, you would need to consult a directory or database that specializes in olive oil suppliers and manufacturers in the country. Or, just do your own website searches. ?
