What an electrician can teach you about honesty in business

Let me tell you a quick story about two electricians.

I needed an electrical compliance certificate. I called in an electrician a friend suggested I use.

After completing the first inspection and charging me, the electrician sent me a list of everything that needed to be fixed.

The cost was so exorbitant that it nearly seemed like the price of a significant building renovation project.

I didn’t know what to do next. I searched the Internet and called around a lot before finding an electrician recommended by a real estate agent. The second electrician came, and when he heard how much the first one wanted to charge me, he said, “I am not proud of the people who work in my industry.”

He said he would get two of his electricians to come in and do an independent assessment of what needed to be repaired. He would also waive the inspection fee.

His two electricians did their inspection, and I was sent a quote. The quote was lower than one-fifth of what the first electrician wanted to charge me.

Now this story ties in directly with trust in business. There are, as we know, people who will merely want to milk you for as much as they can.

However, there are honest business people who will go out of their way to give you a price that is within your budget.

Look, nobody decides to do anything unless they have a budget figure in their heads.

The budget figure might be low or high. It depends. But the point here is that when you are dealing with honest business people, they will give you a price that includes the cost of labor and materials and a markup that is acceptable.

All reports that I write for clients are strictly private and confidential. I can also arrange a non-disclosure agreement.

It is tempting to think that you can write a report using a word generator from an artificial intelligence desktop or mobile app. However, this method isn’t as effective as it sounds because you will have information from various sources. All this information needs to be analysed, compressed, and presented in a form that can be easily read by your client. Most importantly, the written report needs to sound like you wrote it.
