What Is Your Worst Horror Story—in Three Words?

Share these new ideas

The daily news churns out horror stories galore. But they are usually more than three words. Horror stories on corrupt politicians, rising prices, crime.

Yesterday on X/Twitter, I came across a fun prompt:

Write a horror story using only three words.

I wondered what my horror story would be.

And yours?

For me, it would be about trying — for well over a month — to get a medical consultant to help me with my medical insurance.

Mine would be:

Health consultant silence.

Another one:

Cellphone at home.

Or:

Midnight knocking sounds.

Once you start, it becomes addictive.

Three little words, and suddenly your imagination fills in the rest. Here are a dozen of the best — some zany, some relatable, some lightly absurd:

• Alien meeting cancelled

• Workers smear varnish

• Medical aid costs

• My girlfriend’s pregnant

• Coffee machine broken

• Load shedding returns

• Contractor ‘almost finished’

• Mosquito at midnight

• G string breaks

• No one came

• Vegetable abducts vegan

• Spaceship double-booked

And now it’s your turn.

What’s your three-word horror story for today?
