The Chill Can is the world’s first self-chilling beverage can. Developed by The Joseph Company International, the Chill Can has been in research and development for more than 18 years.
By simply pressing a tab on the can, the temperature of the drink inside the can drops by 16°C in three minutes. This technology makes it possible to enjoy a tall drink anywhere and any time – while camping, boating, fishing on the beach or hiking.
The beverage can has a built-in Heat Exchange Unit (HEU) which uses a C-CO2 and adsorbent-desorption system to cool the beverage in the can.
The can uses CO2 reclaimed from the environment and “activated carbon ascertained from a renewable vegetable source”. The process does not require energy which makes it more environmentally acceptable and sustainable.
This new business ideas received much interest from beverage manufacturers. The first licencee is the West Coast Pure Energy beverage.
Don’t you wish you could have thought of this idea?
Sometimes we want to kick ourselves on the shin for not thinking of simple but practical ideas that have potential to make loads of money.
But not all ideas have to be as stunningly new and breakthrough as the Chill Can. Many ordinary people have come up with ideas that are not brilliant but they do have revenue-making potential.
Take the area of microbrewing, for instance. You don’t need to come up with new microbrewing technology to get a piece of the action. In some instances all you need to do is come up with an idea for an ale or lager that no one has sold before or if they have, develop it and introduce it onto the market first.
I know an entrepreneurially-minded person who decided to make his own beer. At first he experimented with his beer and got favourable feedback from all his friends and acquaintances. When he knew he had something that people enjoyed, and he had minimised his risk by doing initial pilot testing, he decided to scale up. Now three years later he is running a microbrewery and can’t produce enough of the stuff.
You don’t need to come up with the best or brightest idea for a product or service. All you need to do is to come up with the right idea.
