Telling lies to protect jobs and for profit.
Before the peak summer season, a shark spotter told me that he hadn’t seen a shark since October. He said great white sharks weren’t in evidence for a long time.
When the peak summer season started, the shark spotters began to spot sharks. They put up their shark danger zone flags almost every day. This was when there were many swimmers and sunbathers on the beach.
Now that the peak season has passed, the shark spotters themselves aren’t to be spotted and there are no flags.
It’s possible that the marine life and environmental destroyers, the fishermen with their nets, catching fish in the bay, attracted the sharks.
But for the sharks to stay in the bay and along the shoreline for these two weeks or more and then vanish is hard to believe.
There could be, more than meets the eye. But let’s be generous and give the shark spotters the benefit of the doubt. Everyone anyway acts in their own self interest.
People tend to forget how many lives the shark spotters have saved. It’s a tedious and boring job and paid very little.
A suspicious mind would lead to thinking that the shark spotters need to justify their role otherwise they will eventually, in the long term, be out of work.
This is often the case with business services. Here’s where plenty of sharks are swimming around out to get your money.
Take, for example, three plumbers who came to my property when the kitchen ceiling was leaking.
The identified culprit was the shower on the floor above.
I got quotes from three plumbers. All of them wanted to gut the entire bathroom, including the shower. And all of them wanted to charge a fortune.
I decided to get one more plumber to do an inspection. He identified that the leaking was occurring from the tiles on the floor of the shower. The gaps between the tiles needed to be sealed.
I asked him to go ahead. The plumber used a special glue, did the job himself, and the leaking stopped.
Now imagine this. It would have cost thousands with the other three plumbers, yet the fourth plumber correctly identified the problem and charged around a thousand.
Were the other three plumbers telling lies for profit or were they just incompetent? It’s hard to believe that they were interested in saving me money.
This brings me to the point:
You often find that business people are out to extract the most money from you. Some would use the impolite term to screw you, or simply rip you off.
With a straight face they will identify problems that you have never even thought about. Some of these problems often seem imaginary rather than real. They operate on your fears.
I’m sure you know where this is headed.
Steve Jobs said, Focus is about saying no.
You can say no to many things that will simplify your life. Just be careful of the things that you say yes to because they will often complicate your life.
