This morning I took a door lock down to a locksmith to get a key made.
The lock was very old and the locksmith said he would service it for me and of course make the key.
When I came back to collect he asked me where the two screws were that hold the plate inside the locking mechanism.
I said I didn’t even know there were two screws on the plate.
He showed me where the screws were. I said I’d go buy some from the hardware.
But then he took the locking mechanism from me and said he’d see what he could do.
He came back with two screws and the whole locking mechanism was fixed.
The charge for everything was reasonable.
I left his business with a good feeling because my lock problem was solved.
He had given me much more value than I had bargained for.
I think this is something that’s very important because there are a lot of businesses out there these days that just do the basic minimum and won’t give you any additional customer service.
These businesses will merely cut the key for you, give you the key, and take your money and say goodbye.
Now some might bring up that term old school and say that old school doesn’t exist anymore.
Well that’s not always the case.
With this small example that I mentioned there was old school service involved.
It brings me to my point and that is this is the way I like to do business.
It’s gratifying both for the giver and receiver to have a little bit of extra added.
Some might call it extra value but whatever you call it, it’s something that you’ll remember long after the event.
It’s easier then to recommend such businesses to other people because of a good experience.
