A caregiver has a demanding role to play caring for a loved one with a mental illness. Here are three areas to focus on that will help you.
1. Yourself. Without you being in a healthy state of mind and body you won’t be able to deal with us the demands of being a caregiver.
2. Your loved one. It goes without saying that your loved one needs attention, your love and caring. Taking time to no they behavior, needs and wants is important.
3. Relationship. The quality of your relationships determine your happiness. The more you work on your relationship with your loved one, the better off you will be.
There is much more to being a caregiver of a loved one with a mental illness. But for this week if you focus on these three areas and really think about your behavior and they behavior, you may well see any improvement in all three areas.
But, and this is an important but, you have to keep it up day in and day out otherwise you go off track and get caught in the malström of frustration and helplessness.
